The assassination of the Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri in February 2005 hit the front pages all over the world. Ever since then, the international community has blamed the government in Damascus for the assassination.

Nevertheless, many traces seem to lead a strange conglomerate, which has access to the centres of power in Washington and Jerusalem and consists of militant, right-wing, neo-conservative and/or mammon-bound groups from the US and Israel and has close links to - as Nagy N. Najjar, intelligence strategist and director of the Government of Free Lebanon in Exile put it in March 2005 – “a consortium of anti-Syrian Lebanese expatriates with close links to the opposition in Lebanon”.

Ziad K. Abdelnour, head of the United States Committee for a Free Lebanon, another organisation of expatriates working closely with the US-government and the Lebanese “Résistance” in exile, said in July 2002, that the best way to achieve peace in Lebanon was via American politics. In his opinion, the war for Lebanon is neither fought in the Middle East, nor in Lebanon, but the whole thing is decided in Washington.

Opfer einer tödlichen Intrige

Die Akte des am 15. Februar vergangenen Jahres ermordeten libanesischen Ministerpräsidenten Rafik Hariri ist noch nicht geschlossen. Wer waren die Attentäter? Wer die Hintermänner? Der studierte Kriminalist Jürgen Cain Kübel sieht die Objektivität der bisherigen Untersuchung »von Beginn an durch einseitige Parteinahme verletzt«. Sie verstößt »gegen die grundlegende Regel, das Verbrechen allseitig und umfassend aufzuklären«. Kübel vermeidet Schuldzuweisungen. Er schließt auch syrische Beteiligung – denn die Sicherheitsorgane Syriens hatten ja wirklich in Libanon das Sagen – als Möglichkeit nicht ausdrücklich aus. Sie erscheint aber nach dem Lesen seines Buches wenig plausibel. Sein Anliegen ist es, auf bisher unterdrückte Spuren, die zu den Drahtziehern des Attentats führen könnten, aufmerksam zu machen....
