Never since World War II have people been threatened by unemployment and insecurity of payment on such a scale and been exploited by a gang of only a few shareholders and cadres of politics and economy. …
Never before have we been betrayed so boldly and been forced into wars in which thousands of people have been murdered or crippled at the command of a man who alls himself a Christian.
Never before has the International Law, one of the greatest achievements of mankind, been avoided in such a cynical and self-righteous way.
Never before has the general public interest, the foundation of every democratic society, been attacked under such hypocritical pretence.
Never before has the fourth power in a state, the media, failed so completely in their task to keep a critical eye on the ones in power and to monitor their doings.
Never before have the fundamental rights been curtailed to such an extent.
Never before have monitoring and repression been so all-embracing.
Never before has the public opinion been manipulated so perfectly.
What kind of a world is it, in which a single family, allegedly the wealthiest family of the world, has more money than would be necessary to supply the whole plant with clean drinking water, but does not show the slightest interest in it?
US Congress has approved the government’s claim for another 87.5 billion $ for the continuation of the war in Iraq. This sum would have paid for the basic education of all children in the world.
It is a perverse world, in which the basic principles of social justice, trust and democracy are laughed at. Many people say this is just what globalisation is like. Some of those who are better informed would refer to the role played by the global power structures, the international speculative operations or the neo-liberal ideology as an explanation, while those less well informed (amongst them a shocking number of the so-called economy theorists) would blame the allegedly genetically programmed greed of man.
Theories cannot act – only people can do that. It is not globalisation that subjects the supply of drinking water and energy to the rules of profit. Just as it is not part of the human nature to privatise prisons…
